Alive but still hiatus

blinddetermination:

(* Hurricane wasen’t too bad here, but the exhaustion/migraines the weather brought dealt a heavy blow to me in general, + the 500% stress i’ve been under lately, i’ve been bedridden the last few days)

(* For folks who don’t know, i have several physical and mental health issues that get extremely worse under stress and can make me physically ill, as in it gives me fevers/phantom pains/insomnia and a mixed bag of other fun symptoms)

(* It’s gotten so bad that i’ve been unable to leave my room or function like a normal human being in general. As it is, what little time i manage to muster up out of bed has been spent on work, and even that is exceedingly minimal)

(* in addition, having 6 adults and 5 kids all in one household with only my mom and me earning incomes has basically made it so any extra funds we gather go towards the massive up-spike in utility bills/groceries)

(* so i honestly simply cant afford to work on the comic at the moment)

(* I’ll work on it as soon as i finish some of my current workload, which might be awhile seeing as i’m working at a snails pace atm.)

(* If you wanna lend me some support, you can hit up my patreonĀ ,Ā kofi or my redbubble, thank you to all of you for your encouragement and support regardless.)

(* So please bare with me for a little bit while i focus on gathering funds and building my health back up. i know i’m always late for some reason or another, but unfortunately that’s just how it goes when your health is as garbage as mine.)

Steven Universe Podcast Volume 3: Episode 5: Reunited

love-takes-work:

This is Volume 3, Episode 5 of the official Steven Universe podcast, looking at the episode ā€œReunited,ā€ including input from Rebecca Sugar and Ian Jones-Quartey.

The official description:

Steven Universe creator Rebecca Sugar and former Executive Producer Ian Jones-Quartey return to provide a detailed look at the creation and execution of ā€œReunited.ā€ Rebecca reveals her original idea for the wedding, the inspiration she drew from old movies like ā€œFiddler On The Roofā€ and ā€œA Funny Thing Happened On The Way To The Forum,ā€ and why it was so important for her to get ā€œReunitedā€ made. Rebecca and Ian also discuss the different fighting styles and abilities of the Diamonds, everybody’s wedding outfits, Ronaldo’s armor and sword, the Cluster, and how the entire Steven Universe series is so informed by ā€œThe Wizard Of Oz!ā€

This, as usual, is bit long so I’ll do my bullet points of interest, with longer descriptions after the jump.

Highlights:

  • The episode was not originally meant to open with a song. They added the opening number much later to establish plot elements that needed to be fresh in our minds and also set the stage for how Steven was feeling.
  • They knew the Cluster arc would culminate in arm wrestling way back when they first invented the Cluster arc.
  • Musical influences for the opening number and the episode itself included For Me and My Gal, A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum, and Fiddler on the Roof.
  • The Cluster manifesting as an arm while the rest of it stays unformed to spare the Earth is described as ā€œvery uncomfortableā€ for the gestalt creature.
  • Katie Mitroff is credited for much of the opening song sequence, including wedding outfit design, with help from Joe Johnston.
  • Garnet’s wedding outfit was originally conceived as being torn for the battle, but the design they used turned out perfect for showing the mixture of garments AND working well for fighting.
image
  • Ronaldo, seen wearing armor and talking to Bismuth at the wedding, is described by Ian as mansplaining armor to Bismuth.
  • Early concepts of the Ruby and Sapphire wedding started with Garnet actually marrying herself, in an episode known as ā€œIf You Love Yourself So Much.ā€
  • Diamonds in combat were mostly handled by storyboarder Miki Brewster.
  • Blue’s ability to incapacity others with her sadness was known early on, and Lapis’s reaction was an obvious element they intended to include.
  • Rebecca thinks the Wizard of Oz and Sleeping Beauty are the most commonly cited films in their writers’ room, with a little bit of Cinderella for aesthetic.
  • Blue Diamond getting a house dropped on her is a Wizard of Oz reference.
  • Lapis being the one to drop the barn on Blue was a satisfying confrontation, as Blue is described as a parent who abandoned her.
  • Violence following a wedding was another nod to Fiddler, but it was important to Rebecca that the wedding itself be completed.
image
  • The Diamonds’ invasion could not have happened any sooner or they would not have faced a united, prepared team of Crystal Gems. They now know what they’re fighting for.
  • It’s so important to show that communication and compassion for others leads to strength. The show often depicts the best Fusions as being healthy relationships, and Rebecca thinks spending time and effort on cultivating these relationships–and on yourself!–will make you stronger in the next thing you do.
  • Ruby and Sapphire’s wedding was an important story type Rebecca and Ian felt their characters deserved to have. They were created as a classic cartoon couple who managed to get various romantic story types assigned to them throughout the show; Rebecca was determined to champion this mission to let them have this.
  • Ruby and Sapphire’s introduction in ā€œJailbreakā€ was met with a decision-maker slapping a specific prohibition on them being a romantic couple. Rebecca had to argue, ā€œBut they ARE.ā€
  • It’s so incredibly vital that couples like Ruby and Sapphire are not considered more adult than typical couples in G-rated content. Ā
  • Rebecca is grateful and relieved that the wedding has finally aired and they got to do this, but she stresses that this is only one example amidst a hundred years of weddings and couples that communicate an exclusively heteronormative message. There’s still so much to do for LGBTQ kids to help them understand they DO belong in a ā€œfamily-friendlyā€ world.
  • Though much of the discussion for representation has been about couples, they emphasize they’re not just talking about couples here or pushing the idea that everyone’s dream should be getting married. It’s just that if you do want to marry someone, there is a future for someone who imagines being happy in a non-heteronormative relationship.
  • The show is designed to give kids tools to handle their own feelings.
  • Rebecca is excited to include Ruby and Sapphire as a couple that decided to get married after being together a VERY long time. Couples need to talk and know each other instead of jumping into something like marriage.
  • What’s next on Steven Universe? An exploration of what it means for these rebel Gems to be on Homeworld, with Steven ā€œin the palace,ā€ and the upcoming episodes are ā€œhuge.ā€

Have I ever mentioned the weird cryptid (?) encounter I had onceĀ

image

Oke oke

So really I hesitate to say it was a cryptid really, because I don’t know WHAT it could have been in general. Here’s the story though.
It was really late and me and my mom are driving home from drive out to the pharmacy. Super dark, but we’re going down a street back toward my house. Its kind of woody kind of next to the town. Meaning on one side is a huge river and the park and the other is like a run down abandoned building they still need to fix.
I’ll mention I’m in a really rural part of pennsylvania, if that matters.
We stop at a stop light and I’m kind of really tired but I look up and down the road and I freeze up.
Cause I see this THING
I really struggle to describe it because it was very brief, but I saw something huge and black like a shadow just kind of step across the road. I’m not talking walk across the road I’m talking

ONE
BIGĀ
STEP

And of course at first I’m just likeĀ ā€˜oh man I’m really tired I’m seeing things’ cause of course I don’t think much of it, but then I look over and my mom looks absolutely stunned. She turns to me and goesĀ ā€˜What was THAT?’
We talk about it for a bit, mostly at a loss. My mom thinks it was just a deer sprinting across the road, but I’ve never seen a deer clear a road that fast or jump near high enough to reach what I saw.

Because I’m too tired to draw a whole street he’s a general idea of what I think I saw

The more I try to find any research about anything similar to this, I keep finding more wierd sightings of other strange creatures seen in Pennsylvania

Your heart might be in the right place OP but hating on NSFW artists is so 2016.

The message of the game is to be kind, to give a second chance, to be open and empathic… which I can hardly see from anyone outside of the adult fraction of the fandom. I’ve been sent anon hate for shipping incest, completly ignored during conversation for being a porn blog, my art was reposted and made fun of on cringe blogs, people ridiculed me and what I do openly, even commenting hateful stuff under my own works. And that’s the reality of the fandom.

If you want to dismiss my own experience because I’m a gross and sick pervert we can also talk about how Markiplier and many other youtubers were bullied and harrassed for playing the game ā€˜the wrong way’, how the creator of So Sorry is absolutely despised and hated for being a furry or – my favourite – how a girl was almost killed (needles in the cookies, anyone remember?) for shipping Frans. There’s probably much more scary stuff that has happened that I don’t know about.

I agree with one thing here – fandom does not equal game but holy heck am I tired of people blaming it all on us. Skelefuckers and all the other NSFW artists are the sweetest people I have ever met, people who have helped me so many times both with conversation or with financial support while the ā€˜good side’ is full of judgmental, aggressive, triggered babies who probably get off on being judgmental, aggressive, triggered babies.

All in all I know this is tilting at windmills but I guess I was just sick of keeping quiet all the time and taking all the shit thrown at me and my friends. I’m sorry if I upset anyone and I wish everyone a good day.

Red sweetie, I’m greatly sorry to hear that you got so much hate for your work and for everything else because you’re a ā€˜skelefucker’ blog. I will say that I fully agree with what you said above.

Of all the hate I have seen, the majority of it has been from the ‘good side’. It really saddens me that a game that focuses on love, compassion, acceptance, and kindness is thrown at people’s faces when something isn’t created to one sides favor and thus get attacked for it.

Every single person I have met on the nsfw side are absolute and utter sweethearts, and I honestly would rather be a skelefucker any day so long as I can continue to be around kind and lovely fans who are greatly supportive of each other.

Honestly, agreed.

Just because you draw or write something doesn’t make you a supporter of that. Skeleton lovers in this fandom, yes, love the skeletons in the video game. But that doesn’t mean they’re going grave-robbing for company in bed. People need to stop acting like they are.

This applies to other things too. If you viewing the art or writing of something that upsets you – then just block the tags or it, and if the creator is properly tagging their content you won’t see it again.

I don’t enjoying drawin the boi’s together, as it makes me personally uncomfortable – But I’m not going to put anyone down for what makes them happy. A lot of the art is very wonderful, and as long as the creator doesn’t actively say ā€œey I actually in real life support (something illegal/morally bad)ā€ then you have no reason to attack them.
