Visualization and Spell-Casting

nightshadeandroses:

A Tip for Secret Witches or Witches with Minimal Supplies

Introduction

When I was first starting out with witchcraft, I didn’t have that many fancy supplies or extravagant herb and crystal selections. Hell, there were times when I was lucky to just have a white candle.

So, being a baby-witch of about 14 years old, I tried to research ways that I could cast all of these cool spells I was finding on the internet without needed to spend the little money I was given from my parents on supplies. And then I was introduced to the Visualization method.

Spells and Ingredients

Now, before I go into the details of it, let’s look at why spells even have ingredients or supplies. Each ingredient or item serves a purpose. They are a catalyst for your energy. They are a way for you to focus your energy. Rosewater, for example, is often used in love spells because people associate roses with love. So, when you use it, your mind (and your intent) basically go “okay, this is going to boost the possibility of drawing in love with this spell, since this ingredient basically means love.” However, people who wash their faces with rosewater or use it as a simple perfume don’t necessarily draw love to themselves. The ingredients aren’t inherently “magical”, the witch provides the magic. The witch is the one who takes the natural power that resides in these ingredients and uses them to their potential.

So, are ingredients truly necessary for a spell? Or can you just will it to happen?

Some witches may not need ingredients at all. They may have mastered bending reality to their whim and will things into happening. And for those witches, good for you! This post probably won’t be very helpful, nor do you need it, if that’s the case.

However, if you’re like most witches who need something to cling to to help make their spell more concrete and tangible, thus making it easier to put into existence, keep reading.

What Does This Have To Do With Visualization?

If a spell calls for certain ingredients, just visualize having them. Imagine having that priceless athame you’ve been coveting. Imagine having piles of quartz, or crystals that may be dangerous to handle in real life. Imagine having any herb that you may need. Imagine any vessel that you may need.

Now, this is definitely pretty tricky to do, and may take some practice, so start out small.

Practice

Imagine a cup resting on a flat surface in front of you. Imagine a jug of water next to it. Take your time to really visualize these items however you want them to look. Then, once you feel confident in that, try picking up the cup and the jug. Physically move and try to touch them. Imagine how they feel. Are they smooth, bumpy, slippery? Does the liquid inside the jug make the outside cool or warm? Which is heavier or harder to lift: the cup or the jug?

Keep practicing this with different objects until you get to a point where you feel you could imagine anything. Now you can cast any spell with any ingredient without the need to break the bank or reveal your secret!

  • on some kind of medication, including but not limited to hormonal birth control, heart medication, and anti-depressants? you better double check with your doctor before you drink that new tea you just bought.
  • always, always, always tell your doctor before trying any kind of herbal supplement, whether it’s something you made yourself or something you bought at the store.
  • have sensitive skin? dilute your essential oils before putting them anywhere near your skin or in your bathtub.
  • have a diagnosed medical condition? talk. to. your. doctor. before ingesting anything or putting anything on your body that you aren’t familiar with.
  • don’t. drink. essential. oils. essential oils are not consumable!!!!!
  • don’t put citrus oil on your skin and then go out into the sun unless you want a badass chemical burn.
  • don’t put any kind of damn essential oil on your skin without diluting it with a carrier oil. almond oil? olive oil? coconut oil? i don’t care. dilute your essential oils.
  • don’t put essential oils on your animals, diluted or not, point blank.
  • oh, and don’t put fucking crystals in their water bowls to “cleanse their chakras” or whatever the fuck.
  • speaking? of crystals? don’t put crystals in your bodily orifices. don’t put crystals in your own damn water. just don’t.
  • thinking about burning some kind of random herb in your house? you better make sure it’s not gonna release noxious fumes and murder your family.
  • speaking of random herbs – got the urge to forage for some herbs out in the wild? wear. fucking. gloves.
  • don’t burn incense or herbs around your pets. they have tiny, fragile respiratory systems and are super sensitive to that kinda shit.
  • gotta burn a candle down completely for a spell? you better not leave that shit unattended unless you want a house fire.
  • always. practice. fire. safety. that means, don’t go burning shit outside during a burn ban.
  • gods help me – if you wanna harvest your own blood via finger stick, stay away from dirty safety pins and needles and invest in some lancets.
  • drinking dirty water from outside can literally give you worms. boil your damn water.
  • oh yeah. moon water. everyone loves to make moon water. you know what happens when you leave a jar of water at room temperature? it grows bacteria. refrigerate that shit.
  • fresh herbs or other things of that nature left at room temperature can also grow super harmful bacteria, for example, raw garlic at room temperature is a breeding ground for botulism and mold.

Curses vs. Hexes: What’s the Difference?

themori-witch:

If you were to look up the definition of both of the words on a search engine (hello, Google!) they are defined as follows:

  1. Curse: (aside from meaning vulgar words) is “casting the evil eye or an evil spell upon someone.”
  2. Hex: to curse someone.

Oh, dear sweet Google, you have tried your best but in this instance, every witch will tell you that you are wrong.

The general consensus is that ultimately, curses are worse than hexes; the target tends to suffer more at the hands of a curse than they do at the hands of a hex.

Curses:

  1. Usually more serious than hexes.
  2. Can live on through generations if that is what the caster intended.
  3. Tend to be long-term in nature.
  4. Usually, curses are borne of anger; of hatred and even a need for justice.
  5. They can usually be reversed or undone; reversals can be done by the caster, and undoings may be done by the caster, target or a third party.

Hexes:

  1. Often cast as a “one-off” piece of magick.
  2. Their effects are apparent very quickly, but they are not long-term – seen sometimes as an instantaneous form of malevolent magick.
  3. Hexes are borne of revenge and/or annoyance, and they usually cause irritation and subsequent annoyance to the target – hexes are a way for the caster make their target feel what they have been made to feel for a short time.
  4. Due to their nature, hexes are usually over and done with quickly and do not require a reversal or undoing.

Both of these forms of magick, are forms of malevolent magick that is used for many reasons.
Some people curse their abusers, or people who have hurt them and some people hex their ex-partners, or someone who has brushed them up the wrong way. Like all magick, what you do is circumstantial and no one can tell you whether you should or should not perform magick of this kind (I am pro-curse and hex, but not everyone is).

Common Cursing & Hexing Components:

Taglocks:

  1. Bodily fluids (blood, spit, semen, menstrual blood, tears, urine, etc.)
  2. Fingernails.
  3. Hair.
  4. Photographs.
  5. Personal possessions.
  6. Poppets.
  7. Usernames/nicknames/names.

Herbs/Plants:

  1. Cayenne Pepper
  2. Chilli
  3. Lemon
  4. Black Pepper
  5. Thistle
  6. Thorns
  7. Poppies
  8. Mold

Other items:

  1. Nails (rusted for potency)
  2. Razor blades
  3. String/yarn/chord
  4. Cemetery Dirt
  5. War Water
  6. Needles
  7. Bones
  8. Vinegar
  9. Mirror (broken or whole)
  10. Broken glass
  11. Dead Wasps

You’ll notice that I’ve bunched the common ingredients for curses and hexes in one list – that is because these two are simply lesser and greater forms of the same kind of magick, so you must bear in mind what your intent is when you choose your spell/ritual ingredients.

Do you want to frustrate, annoy and irritate your target? Do you want to bring them bad luck? Do you want to bring them untold misery? Consider this carefully.
